Cholla Cactus Pens

TOOLS NEEDED:
Disc sander with squaring jig
Drill centering guide and appropriate drill bit for pen kit selected
Lathe with carbide tipped turning tools (New Edge Cutting Tools)
Scroll saw or band saw
Sanding supplies

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Pen Kit of choice (Majestic Jr., Majestic Squire & Gatsby Pen from Penn State Industries)
Cholla Cactus (BG Artforms) or get your own in the desert
Turquoise rocks to crush your own fill or obtain the filling material (available from Craft Supply or Arizona Silhouette)

Wood: big leaf maple or selected wood of choice
Waste wood for creating jam chuck
Friction polish, spray lacquer, or finish of choice
Assorted grits of Abrasive paper

TOOLS NEEDED:
Lathe with a 4 prong drive center, live center and a 3”, 4-jawed chuck
Assorted lathe chisels, including: 3/8” detail spindle gouge, bedan, modified bedan, modified square nosed scraper, round nose scraper, 1/16” thin parting tool, 3/8” parting/beading tool, and a pyramid tool
